The Wellington Mercantile Company has a rich history in Smith Valley, Nevada as it was a stagecoach stop on the way to several mining camps in the area. The Wellington Mercantile was built in 1880 in Hoye Canyon in Douglas County and moved to its present location in 1893. Over the years, the business name of the store changed from Smith Valley Cooperative in the 1920's, Zimmerman Mercantile Company in the 1930's, H.G. Helwig Mercantile Company in the 1940's, and finally to Wellington Mercantile Company from the 1950's until 2001. There was always something going on in Wellington!
As we grow, additional products will be added such as t-shirts and historical photos of the Wellington Mercantile, Hoye Mansion, Post Office, and other activities.
